It’s 2020, and I get a message from my friend Fia. Back then, we were just acquaintances. She tells me about a side project she’s working on with Leander. Leander is a skilled music producer and wants visuals for a track he just produced. The track is over 11 minutes long, and Fia only has eight photographs as media. I had been experimenting with Adobe Premiere and the broad possibilities of the effects panels, blending modes, and so on, so she thought I could try animating the photographs to add some dynamic elements.
We met up and started editing together, and after a couple of weeks, we had this sequence of photographs that deformed and distorted to the rhythms of Leander’s track. The video itself, as a piece of media, hasn’t aged well with me over the years, but it remains a time capsule of the beginning of my friendship with Fia, which turned out to be one of the strongest bonds I’ve built in recent years.
